3D model description
Designed to hold four 20x20x1 inch filters in a box shape for easier replacement of Corsi Rosenthal box filters. Filters slide securely in and out of the frame without the need for tape around the top and bottom edges.
For a full frame (bottom and top), print 8 each of the corner and connector pieces. For a half frame (top or bottom only), print 4 of each. A full frame will take about 1.5 kgs of filament (maybe a slight overestimate as I was having hardware problems on my initial test prints).
Hot glue the frame together. The top frame can be duct taped to the fan. The bottom frame can be hot glued or duct taped to a piece of cardboard.
Slide in filters and tape edges of filters together to cover any gaps.
Enjoy your newly filtered air!
Proceeds from sales of these STL files go to help me print more CR box frames for non-profits in my local area.
3D printing settings
Printed using a 0.6mm, 230C nozzle & 50C bed with PLA Plus filament (tougher than standard PLA); supports needed for connector pieces but not for corner pieces. I did not use any rafts. Make sure your belts are tight as this print involves lots of long, straight lines that need to line up precisely for the frame to be airtight.
I have a 300x300mm bed and printed 2 corners or 4 connectors at a time. At ~50mm/s with a 0.6mm nozzle, it takes about 8 hours to print 2 corners, and about 5.5 hours for 4 connectors. So if you time it right, you can get it all printed within 2-3 days.
The filters I used were 20x20x1 Filterbuy MERV 13 filters, which actually have measurements closer to 19.625 x 19.625 x 0.75 – depending on the filters you use you might need to scale the model slightly for a perfect fit (so print a test connector piece first to measure the width!).
